Sometimes you ask for a 'handling charge' for export cargo? What is it?

Export shipments through any sea port (FOB) will require a handling charge without exception. But different sea port's handling charge is different.

FYI, If cargo going through HK, we generally will request a handling charge of US$200 when the order value is less than $3,000. If going through Shanghai, the handling charge is lower, it is US$130.

Of course if the order value exceeds $3,000, we would not ask for the charge.

Please understand that the handling charge goes to the shipping company, forwarder, customs.. etc. not to our pocket. Regarding what is consisted in the port's charge, please see the following list which is about the Shanghai port's:
