UL is introducing a new switch standard, UL61058-1, why?

It has been many years that North America and Europe each have their own switch testing standard. It is UL1054 in USA and EN61058 in Europe. Thus someday UL decided to harmonize their standard to the Europe’s by introducing a new standard, UL 61058-1.

The purpose may be that that once the applicant passes the new standard’s testing, the applicant can both have North America’s approvals ( UL and CUL ) and Europe’s approvals ( ENEC and Demko ). The existing standard UL1054 can only be effective until 2015. That means switches that need UL safety mark have to get the new approval according to the new standard before that year.

The good news is that our main power switches all gets the new approvals.
